Ramen can be learned or eaten on a tour, and this page puts the two side by side. In the class near Shibuya you make the noodles and finish three styles of ramen in 90 minutes. On the walks a guide picks the shops, you eat several half-size bowls, and nothing is cooked by you. For anyone avoiding meat, the choice is narrower than it looks: one walk is built around pork, chicken and fish broths, the other around vegan ones.

What you do in the ramen class

Viyago Japan teaches in a ground-floor studio at Ohashi 2-16-29 in Meguro, three to five minutes on foot from Ikejiri-Ohashi Station, one stop from Shibuya. You knead the dough, roll it and cut it with a noodle machine, sear chicken chashu with a blowtorch and build three mini bowls: tonkotsu, shoyu and miso. The broths are made before you arrive, a point some guests raised after expecting to cook the stock themselves. Up to 20 people share a session. Standard toppings are part of the ticket, while drinks and premium toppings such as wagyu are sold on site.

The studio asks you to be on time. Guests who arrive five minutes late or more may have to join a class already under way or may not be let in, and a refund is not guaranteed.

When the class does not work

The operator says the class is not suitable with a severe gluten, egg or soy allergy, with coeliac disease or with a strong sensitivity to flour in the air. Fully vegan and religious diets are not supported either. If that rules you out, the vegan tasting walk below is the ramen option on this site that is built for you.

The ramen tasting walk

Tokyo Ramen Tours takes up to eight people to three ramen shops for six mini bowls and one drink. The standard route starts in Shibuya and ends in Ebisu or Shinjuku depending on the day, and the listing also names routes from Shinjuku and Ueno, so check the meeting point of the date you book. Plan for about 3 km on foot with some hills. Every broth on this walk contains chicken, pork and fish. Infants can come along for free and share food from the group.

The vegan ramen walk

The same operator runs a two-hour walk with four mini bowls of vegan ramen and one drink. It meets in front of Shibu Hachi Box, across from the Hachiko statue in Shibuya, and continues to Shinjuku by train; the fare is not included, so have a transport card or cash ready. Each shop also has a non-vegan broth for anyone in your group who wants it. Gluten-free noodles can be arranged, but at one shop the broth is seasoned with soy sauce that contains gluten. The walk is not suitable for wheelchair users. More on eating vegetarian or vegan in Tokyo is on our page for vegetarian and vegan food tours.

Guests in the ramen class and on the walks

The critical reviews of the class point the same way as the listing: the broths are ready when you arrive, and a French guest who wanted to learn them left unsure how to repeat the dish at home. Another French guest found the studio not clean enough. On the six-bowl walk, a Canadian guest found it expensive for food that costs little in any ramen shop, and a British guest felt the bowls came too close together.

“Super fun workshop learning how to make noodles from scratch and learning about 3 different types of ramen broth. Definitely recommend!”
Mathilde · Netherlands · October 2026 Ramen Class near Shibuya · Viyago Japan
“This class was so much fun! The instructor was so knowledgeable and did a great job of leading a big group. The end result was delicious too! …”
Avery · United States · October 2026 Ramen Class near Shibuya · Viyago Japan
“Very basic cooking class that could be interesting if you rarely cook. We were disappointed not to learn to make the different broths, which I feel is the most difficult part of ramen making. We left not feeling like we could replicate the dish because we were missing the explanation for half of it.”
Verified traveler · France · January 2026 Ramen Class near Shibuya · Viyago Japan
“I had a great time! Sahori was very nice and taught me a lot about Ramen and Japan in general. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Tokyo.”
Jacqueline · Austria · September 2026 Ramen Tasting Tour with 6 Mini Bowls · Tokyo Ramen Tours
“Tour was great! We loved all the different ramen tastings & spots we visited. Daisy our guide was great! Our tour got switched due to a closed shop and communication was great.”
Lisa · United States · June 2026 Ramen Tasting Tour with 6 Mini Bowls · Tokyo Ramen Tours
“Cleanliness is clearly an issue. The teacher does not seem very involved or particularly passionate.”
Verified traveler · France · April 2026 Ramen Class near Shibuya · Viyago Japan
“Daisy was a fantastic guide. Warm, friendly and very personable. Took us to two wonderful ramen restaurants off the beaten track, first in Shibuya and then in Shinjuku. Full of knowledge and information. Plenty of food - very full afterwards! Many thanks :)”
Nicola · United Kingdom · March 2026 Vegan Ramen Walking Tour · Tokyo Ramen Tours
“The tour was good and it was nice to be shown around. If you’re looking to try as many ramens as possible and price isn’t a concern, this is a great tour. If you’re just looking to try ramen in Tokyo though, you realize this tour is very expensive for what it is. Ramen places are everywhere and very cheap. …”
Verified traveler · Canada · October 2024 Ramen Tasting Tour with 6 Mini Bowls · Tokyo Ramen Tours
“Annie was such a great guide! She gave great information and history I didn't know. Of course the ramen was great as well and I appreciated the variety of options.”
