About tokyo-food-tours.com
tokyo-food-tours.com compares guided food tours, izakaya crawls, market walks and cooking classes in Tokyo that you can book online. This page says who writes it, how it earns money and where the facts come from.
Who is behind this site
The site is run by Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany. He builds and maintains a small set of guides to tours and tickets. There is no agency behind it: research, writing and updates are done by one person, who also answers the e-mails.
What this site does
Tokyo food tours look alike in their titles. Many promise around fifteen dishes in Shinjuku, but they differ in what the ticket really covers: some include dinner and unlimited drinks, some only the guide. We list for every tour and class whether food and drinks are included, whether guests under 20 can join, which diets the operator can handle and where you meet. Where a listing contradicts itself, for example on the number of dishes, we point it out. We do not take bookings; every reservation is made on the booking platform.
How the site earns money
If you book through one of our links, the booking platform pays us a commission. Your price stays the same, because the commission comes out of the platform’s margin. No operator pays for a better position: the tables are sorted by number of reviews.
Where the information comes from
Prices, ratings and review counts come from the booking platforms’ interfaces and refresh automatically. Inclusions, meeting points, diet and age rules come from the operators’ listings and are checked again at intervals. If a listing does not say something, we leave it open instead of guessing. If you spot something out of date, write to us and we will correct it.
What we are not
We do not run food tours or cooking classes and have no ties to any operator on this site. For anything binding, such as allergies, late arrival or changed meeting points, the operator’s own information comes first.
